March: The Month That Everyday Feels Like Wednesday

March: The Month That Everyday Feels Like Wednesday

Today is April 1st and I am glad that March is over. It may be the busiest month for any teacher, but this is so true for music teachers. There are so many performances, events, and lets be honest the school days feel like forever!

There were many days where I left school at 6:00 pm and several days where I forgot to pack lunch. It is a busy time and although it is officially Spring, in Maine it is still Winter.

Yesterday we had sleet and rain and as soon as it looks like the snow is melting we get hit with more snow. That is what March felt like, mother nature playing tricks on the Spring lover.

For those who know me, know that I love the gardening season. I currently have roughly 1,000 seedlings taking over my house waiting to be transplanted outside. I so badly want to sun and warmth. I am getting tired of bringing a coat to work.

Going back to teaching, this is what I experienced this month:

1) A concert

2) Running the middle school dance (It was a huge hit!)

3) Hosting a student teacher

4) Scheduling headache

5) Frozen budget

Ah but again, this is just the life of a teacher. Of course I also had the normal day to day teacher events such as holding kids accountable, reminding kids that Band is a class, and answering emails. So I am looking forward to a slower pace month. Although a plus that happened in March is daylight saving. At least when I come home for work the sun is out and I am not using a flashlight to make sure I don't slip on ice.

I am also looking forward to reaching the end to my graduate class. Doing grad classes and teaching is harder to balance than I realized........

How did your March go? How was the work and life balance for you? I am hoping to have better balance in April and arrive home at a reasonable time!
